VICAN STAINLESS STEEL

STAINLESS STEEL RACE AND BALL BEARINGS

We can call this line of deep groove ball bearings “conventional bearings” as they are the type of bearing most commonly found on the market and have the sole purpose of fulfilling the rotational function of the mechanism in which it will work.

VICAN stainless steel bearings, as well as any other stainless steel deep groove ball bearings, are not intended to improve performance or seek any significant gains or increase durability.

Due to physical-chemical treatments, stainless steel stands out for being more resistant to oxidation compared to other metal alloys such as chrome steel which makes stainless steel bearings a great option for those looking for great value for money.

However, it is important to emphasize that this type of material is “resistant to” and not “proof of” oxidation. Lack of adequate care for the parts, whether in storage, cleaning or lubrication can cause corrosion due to contamination of the material.

INOX steel VICANs are produced with two types of stainless steel in their components:

Races or Rings – 440 stainless steel

Balls – 440 stainless steel

Cage – 304 stainless steel

Stainless steel bearings must always be lubricated for proper functioning and to protect them from possible oxidation. We recommend the use of our special fluids for cleaning and adequate lubrication of this type of material.

 

VICAN SHIELDED STAINLESS STEEL

SHIELDED RACE AND BALL BEARINGS IN STAINLESS STEEL

VICAN CERAMIC HYBRID

HYBRID OPEN STRUCTURE BEARINGS WITH CERAMIC BALLS AND STAINLESS STEEL RACES (WITHOUT SHIELDING OR PROTECTIVE SEALS)

Our hybrid bearings have races (races or rings) in 440 stainless steel, cages in stainless steel 304 and balls in ceramic. In this case, the ceramic used is Silicon Nitride (Si3N4).

The benefits of this type of bearing comes from the characteristics of ceramic when compared to stainless steel. Among them, greater hardness, low coefficient of thermal expansion, lighter weight, more precision and greater resistance to corrosion, thermal shocks and impacts stand out.

The VICAN brand emerged from the evolution of this type of bearing. Our hybrid bearings have P4 - ABEC 7 precision and are already at an advanced level of development after a few years of testing and applications.

For those looking for high performance and greater durability, this is one of the best cost-benefit options due to the high rotation power by minimizing friction between materials.

The absence of protective and/or shielding seals makes it lighter and has the best rotation among our bearings.

Hybrid bearings have the advantage of being able to work “dry” in the mechanism into which they are inserted, however the use of suitable lubricants is recommended to increase the durability of the parts, reducing wear and tear between components and inhibiting possible oxidation on the stainless steel parts.

Our shielded hybrid bearings have raceways or rings in 440 stainless steel, cages and shield in 304 stainless steel and balls in ceramic. In this case, the ceramic used is Silicon Nitride (Si3N4).

Armored hybrids differ from open ones by the shields on their sides. These are intended to protect the internal structure from small impurities and also maintain the lubrication of the part for longer thus minimizing the need for more frequent maintenance.

VICAN FULL CERAMIC

100% CERAMIC BEARINGS WITH ZIRCONIA RACES AND BALLS AND PTFE CAGE

VICAN specializes in high-performance radial ceramic bearings. “Full Ceramic” VICANs are made entirely of ceramic material and are superior to common stainless steel and hybrid bearings as they are immune to oxidation and other reasons listed below.

Ceramic is a polymer with a surface similar to glass and has extremely low coefficients of friction and expansion compared to steel, which makes this type of bearing the ideal choice for those looking for friction reduction and heat resistance. In the case of “Full Ceramic” VICANs, there are two types of polymers in their structure:

- Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) is used in the raceways and balls, an ideal material for applications with special objectives, such as achieving higher RPMs (revolutions per minute), seeking to reduce weight (many bearings have 1/3 of the weight of a conventional bearing) and use in aggressive environments where the mechanism is subject not only to high temperatures but also corrosive substances.

*Zirconia is inert to corrosive materials, with the exception of hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Zirconia is lighter than steel, non-magnetic and has a maximum useful temperature of 752°F (400°C).

- In cages or often also known as retainers, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is used, a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications in addition to also withstanding high temperatures (up to 626°F or 330°C) and being very unreactive, partly due to the strength of carbon-fluorine bonds and is therefore often used in containers and piping for reactive and corrosive chemicals.

They have the advantage of “working dry” in the mechanism into which they are inserted, as ceramic balls require less lubricant and are harder than steel balls, which contributes to increasing the bearing's useful life. Lubrication in this case is optional, but the use of suitable lubricants is recommended to increase the durability of the parts, reducing wear and tear between components.
